Natural Allergy Treatments

Prescription and over-the-counter medicines treat the symptoms, not the actual cause, of your health problems.  And in an effort to eliminate one symptom they will often give you more unwanted symptoms in the process, essentially making them an in-effective solution to your illness.

Unfortunately about 2 weeks ago I was overcome with intense allergy symptoms: watery eyes, sneezing, runny nose, fatigue, etc.  In a moment of desperation I acted against my better judgment and started to take over-the-counter medicine.  In the past 2 weeks alone I’ve tried Zyrtec-D, Benadryl, Nasacort, Allegra, and Sudafed.  It’s been an expensive and tiring journey through the medicine aisle… and even after lots of experimenting… I couldn’t find a medicine that provided me any substantial relief.

Needless to say I was frustrated, but not surprised that Big Pharma had failed me.  Fortunately Andrea, from Frugally Sustainable, recently wrote a blog post on Natural Remedies for Seasonal Allergies.  In her post she recommended incorporating local, raw honey and raw, organic apple cider vinegar into your diet.  Specifically, she suggested drinking an Apple Cider Vinegar & Honey Tonic once a day.

Apple Cider Vinegar & Honey Tonic

For the past 4 days I’ve completely stopped taking medicine and have instead been drinking one Apple Cider Vinegar & Honey Tonic daily, as well as mixing some additional apple cider vinegar into my water throughout the rest of the day.  While my allergies have not been cured, I can honestly say that they apple cider vinegar and honey have reduced my symptoms more so than any of the medicines I was previously taking.

And not only is this method more-natural, it is also drastically cheaper than pharmaceutical medicine.  The Nasacort, Sudafed, and Allegra cost me almost $40.  The apple cider vinegar and honey cost me a little under $10.

Whether you’re looking for all-natural relief from allergies, looking for relief from allergies in general, or just looking to lower your medicinal expenses – I highly recommend you try incorporating apple cider vinegar and honey into your diet!

Apple Cider Vinegar & Honey Tonic

  • 1 Tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar, Organic & Raw
  • 1 Tablespoon Honey, Local & Raw
  • 1 cup water

Heat the water using your method of choice (I just microwave it for about a minute).  Then add the apple cider vinegar and honey.  Stir them together until well mixed.  Consume and enjoy 🙂

  1. We are lucky enough to be an allergy-free household but sadly hubs and I are exrtremely stuffed up with bad colds right now – do you think this would work to get rid of some of the congestion? Couldn’t hurt right?!?!

  2. A great way to always keep allergic reaction in check is to be proactive with plant pollen control. This can ensure that you are certainly not in contact with plant pollen for a longer timeframe and attention than you typically would. This may be avoided by ensuring that your linens are laundered routinely and that you clean your garments and go on a bath before you go to sleep.^
