“Avocado – Tuna Salad”

Go Primal, and you’ll soon find yourself having to make the majority of your meals.  And for those of us with busy schedules, that means its good to have a couple go-to options you can whip together before running out the door in the morning.  And few things are easier to make then tuna salad!

I created this recipe after realizing that commercial mayonnaise is not Primal since it contains soybean oil, sugar, preservatives, etc.  Some people choose to make their own at home… but for whatever reason I just haven’t gotten around to that yet.  So I went looking for the next best option to jazzing up a can of dry tuna.

This may sound like a really weird combination of ingredients, but I urge you to try it with an open mind 🙂

“Avocado – Tuna Salad”
makes 1 serving

  • 1 can of Tuna.  (I usually buy Albacore Tuna from Trader Joe’s, packed in water and low sodium)
  • 1 ripe Avocado
  • 1 ½ tablespoons of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • ½ teaspoon of Salt
  • ½ teaspoon of ground pepper

Open the can of tuna and drain out all the excess water.  Mash it up in a bowl with a fork.  Cut the avocado and scoop the all of the insides into the bowl with the tuna (Avocado will need to be ripe so it can mash easily).  Mash the tuna and avocado together until well combined.  Add olive oil, salt, pepper to tuna/avocado mixture & mix together (Put more or less in according to personal preference).  Transfer to some Tupperware and enjoy your on-the-go lunch!

  1. I make tuna salad frequently, it’s a great quickie snack option that I eat with carrots. I use tuna, hard boiled eggs, celery, miracle whip (not very primal there), and spices. I like the idea of using avocado. I love avocados and finding more uses for them. Thanks!
